Abstract
360,248. Spring-controlled doors. HADDAN, R., 31, Bedford Street, Strand, London.-(Moffats, Ltd.; Dennison Avenue, Weston, Ontario, Canada.) Dec. 17, 1930, No. 38092. [Class 65 (i).] The hinged door of a stove is provided with closing means including a lever and spring, together with means engaging the lever to neutralize'the effect of the spring automatically when the door is open and until it is manually closed. In the construction shown, a door 3 is hinged at the lower edge to the front of a broiling drawer 5, and closes the aperture in the stove front through which the drawer is withdrawn. To each side of the drawer is pivoted at 7 a lever 6 passing through a slot in a laterally-projecting member 13 at the front of the drawer, and connected at the other end to a spring 9. In the closed position of the door the spring exerts a direct pull upward through the lever 7 ; as the door is opened the lever is pulled through the slot, the bottom edge of which forms the fulcrum, until in the open position, Fig. 4, the fulcrum is close to the point of attachment of the spring, so diminishing the pull of the latter on the door. Lugs 12 on the levers 6 engage the members 13 to limit the opening of the door.
