Abstract

360,025. Electric clocks. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SAXBY SIGNAL CO., Ltd., 82, York Road, King's Cross, London. -(Assignees of Bartusch, A. P. ; 1032, Mifflin Avenue, Wilkinsburg, and Jefferson, G. V. ; 7919, Union Street, Swissvale, both in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) July 31, 1930, No. 23114. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1929. [Class 139.] A time switch employed in connection with point and signal lever mechanism for railways, comprises a member moved by the point or signal lever against the action of a spring, and escapement mechanism regulated by an adjustable pendulum for retarding the return of the member. When a segment 60 is swung in either direction, a cam portion 62 depresses a plunger rod 54 and a bridging contact 59 is removed from fixed contacts 58. The rod 54 acts through a rod 36 to rotate a cylindrical casing 9, to which it is attached by a riveted nut 35, against the action of a spiral spring contained within the casing 9. The casing 9 drives a ratchet wheel 23, which, however, transmits motion to a wheel 20 only when it is rotated anticlockwise. The movement of the wheel 20 is regulated by a pendulum 29 through escapement mechanism 24, 26, 27. Thus when the segment 60 is returned to its normal position, the spring rotates the casing 9 to return the rod 36 to its raised position at a rate determined by the pendulum 29. The length of the pendulum 29 is varied by varying its point of attachment to the escapement shaft 28, or by varying the position of its bob 30. The downward movement of the rod 36 is adjustably limited by a nut 39, the effective length of the rod 36 being adjusted by rotating it in the nut 35. The strength of the spring may also be adjusted.
