Abstract
Urea- and thiourea-aldehyde condensation products.-In the production of condensation products from an aldehyde and urea or its derivatives, such as methylol urea or thiourea, the reaction is effected in presence of a quantity of an alkaline earth chloride such as calcium chloride at least 15 per cent of the quantity of the aldehyde and preferably considerably more. In an example, 1000 parts of urea, 3000 parts of 30 per cent formaldehyde solution and 600 parts of calcium chloride dissolved in the formaldehyde solution are employed; after the condensation, the boiling mixture is poured into cold water; the product is plastic, and large quantities of filling materials may be incorporated with it by rolling. Instead of formaldehyde there may be used paraldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde or the like.
