Urea-formaldehyde condensation products.-- Urea, thio-urea, or derivatives thereof are condensed with anhydrous solid polymers of formaldehyde without the use of aqueous solutions. In carrying out the process, urea is caused to react in a dry and finely pulverized state with an anhydrous polymer of formaldehyde, for example, trioxymethylene, preferably in the presence of a catalyst such as sodium chloride or like neutral salt, or small quantities of mineral acids, or anhydrous oxides of aluminium or thorium. In an example, this initial condensation is carried out under normal atmospheric pressure and at a temperature nf from 95‹ to 105‹ C. A filler such as sand, slate-dust, silica, asbestos, or wood-meal may be incorporated at this stage, as may also a small proportion of an accelerator such as sodium chloride, or a solid organic acid, for example oxalic, tartaric, citric, gallic, or tannic acid. The final insoluble product is formed by moulding under the influence of heat and pressure at a mould temperature of from 140‹ to 160‹ C.
