Abstract

359,407. Steam superheaters ; heating feedwater. GIBB, M. S., Central Marine Engine Works, West Hartlepool, Co. Durham. July 16, 1930, No. 21560. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (iii).] Live or exhaust steam, feedwater, or other fluid is heated in vertical tubes 4 arranged across the smokebox of a marine boiler in two or more detachable spaced groups each connected to upper and lower headers 1, 3. The tubes may be placed in vertical gas passages in an air heater 30. The top headers are formed with partitions 6 causing the steam or water to flow downwards and upwards in each group. The bottom headers are formed with internal heat-conducting ribs. The groups may be connected either for series or parallel flow. The bottom headers drain into a pipe 17.
