[Class 29.] A food safe comprises an enclosed storage chamber 1, preferably of zinc, having perforate sides 2 and an air exhaust shaft 9 and supporting a water tray 3 having two opposite sides overhanging water troughs 6 connected by a tube 6x. Sheets of fabric 4 supported by wire frames 5 depend from the tray so that their lower ends are immersed in the water in the troughs. The safe is cooled by the evaporation of the water in the sheet caused by the passage of air through the openings 8 in the casing and the sheet to the storage chamber. Draft-producing means are provided in the shaft 9.
