Abstract

358,943. Shears. WIXON, H. J., The Lodge, Harewood Downs House, Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire. July 15, 1930, No. 21419.. [Class 30.] In devices for collecting material severed by lawn-edge trimming and the like shears comprising an L-shaped box 6 having an upstanding lug 7a at right-angles to a horizontal limb or base 6a thereof, the lug 7a being perforated to receive a pivot bolt 3 of shear blades 1, 2, means being provided for clamping the lug to one of the blades, and the base 6a having an upwardly-inclined front 6b, the perforation in the lug consists of a bayonet or keyhole slot 9. The pivot bolt 3 is such that its head can pass through an enlarged part 9a of the keyhole slot 9 and the box 6 may thus be attached to the shears without removing the bolt from the blades. A tie-bolt 10 is secured between a wall 7 of the box 6 and the lug 7a. It may be fitted with a sleeve 11. A strip 8 clamps the shank of the blade 2 to the lug 7a, being pivoted to the lug and the bolt 10 at one end and secured by a screw 12 at the other. The base 6 may be slotted as at 13 to receive a depending bracket 4 carrying a roller 5 and attached to the blade 1. The edge 13b of the slot 13 may be bent up to retain cut grass on the base 6a.
