Abstract
642,250. Hedge-cutters and sickles. WILLIAMS, G. W. June 19, 1947, Nos. 16260/47 and 30326/49, (the second Provisional Specification being divided out of the Complete Specification). [Classes 6(ii) and 6(iii)] A hand-tool for cutting hedges and grass banks comprises a handle E<SP>4</SP> and a metal strip B which carries threaded studs C to receive the centre holes of razor blades D, the blades being placed end-to-end and being held in place by the engagement of their rear edges with a flange projecting downwardly from a top plate E bolted to the strip by nuts F. The top plate E may be integral with the handle and its width between the flange and front edge is equal to that of the strip so that the blades protrude slightly. To reduce the number of nuts F required to hold the plate and strip together, alternate studs C<SP>1</SP> are shorter and enter recesses E<SP>2</SP> in the top plate. The strip and plate may be curved like a sickle. A cover is provided to shield the blades when not in use.
