358,575. Cigarette-making machines. EBCO MACHINE CORPORATION, 345, West 40th Street, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Grupe, W. F. ; Lyndhurst, New Jersey, U.S.A.) July 11, 1930, No. 20981. Convention date, July 19, 1929. [Class 130.] The carding teeth of a carded roller are arranged in annular rows and a hopper base has its delivery end adjacent the carded roller and the space between the end of the hopper and the carded roller is closed by a back comb. The back comb has grooves corresponding in number to and spaced apart corresponding to the spacing of the rows of teeth on the carded roller and has the form of a filler-block of which a grooved portion extends into the bite between the hopper base and the carded roller. Tobacco is fed by a conveyer belt 11 to a carded roller 14 and a back comb 20 closes the gap between the belt and the roller. The comb, Figs. 5 and 6, comprises a body portion 21 with a face 22 curved to correspond with the surface of the roller 14, and this face 22 has tapered grooves 23 so disposed that the annular rows of teeth on the carding roller sweep through the grooves during movement of the roller. The grooves are wider at the end 23a where the teeth enter than at the end 23b where they leave. The comb has a convex face 24 close to the belt 11 and a flat top 25. The belt 11 and the carded roller may be disposed as described in Specification 327,434, [Class 130, Tobacco].
