[Class 146 (iii).] An inkstand having an ink container a is provided with a pen carrier o resting loosely upon but disconnected from the container so that it will readily leave the container, and an aperture q in the pen carrier is adapted to be closed by means of a penholder. An inkwell c provided at the centre of the container a may be connected to downwardly extending portions e of the container by means of webs g. A cover i for the container has a flange j formed with a small rib k which snaps below a rib h in the container a ; or the cover i may be screwed into the container. The cover i is formed with a central aperture l having a narrow upstanding bead m upon which rests the pen carrier o. The pen carrier has a downwardly extending part p fitting loosely within the aperture l in the cover i, and the central conical aperture q is adapted to be closed by the rounded lower end of a penholder which stands in a vertical position with the pennib projecting into, but not touching the bottom of, the inkwell c. Owing to the loose fit between the part p and the aperture l a lateral blow on the penholder will not upset the inkstand since the carrier will tip about the bead m. Projections or nibs d may be formed on the bottom b of the container a to indicate the correct level of the ink, and similar nibs n or a downwardly extending flange may be provided on the cover i. In a modification, the pen carrier, which may be of sheet metal, rests directly upon the upper edge of the container and itself forms the cover for the container as well as the pen carrier. The pen carrier has a downwardly projecting flange fitting loosely around the outside of the container. As shown in the Figure, feet f may be provided by cutting away the lower portion of the wall of the container. All the parts may be pressed from plastic material which is unaffected by ink.
