Abstract

357,344. Relay devices. PAULIN, J. G., 71, Kopmangatan, Eskilstuna, Sweden. Aug. 16, 1930, No. 24617. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1929. [Class 118 (ii).] In an aneroid barometer, the movement of the diaphragm is transmitted to a " tendency " pointer which, when the instrument is to be read, is returned to zero by an adjusting device. The amount of movement of the adjusting device required to return the pointer to zero is thus a measure of the atmospheric pressure. The diaphragm chambers 13 are connected to a lever 14 suspended from the casing by a flexible strip 15. A fixed spring 16 and two adjustable springs 17 act on the lever 14 which is forked at its free end 23, 23<1>, Fig. 5. Each limb 23, 23<1> is attached to a band 24, 24<1> carrying bands 11, 11<1> secured to the pointer 1 which is itself carried by crossed bands 4, 41. A change in atmospheric pressure causes a raising or lowering of the-lever 14 and a slacking or tightening of the bands 24, 24<1> with a consequent movement of the " tendency " pointer 1. The pointer is brought back to its zero position by adjusting the spring 17 through the movement of a nut 19 on a micrometer screw 20 operated by a knob 21 having a pointer 22 reading against a scale of atmospheric pressures.
