Abstract
356,460. Two-way repeaters. LIGNES TELEGRAPHIQUES ET TELEPHONIQUES, 26, Rue de la PepiniÞre, Paris. Aug. 29, 1930, No. 25873. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1930. [Class 40 (iv).] A two-way repeater is normally conditioned for transmission in the two directions alternately at a high frequency of alternation, but when signal currents are passing the alternation is cut out and the repeater is continuously conditioned in the direction required. In the arrangement shown, a single amplifier 12 is associated with lines 10, 11 by means of a rotary commutator 13, brushes 22 of which normally engage alternately with contacts 23, 24. When signals arrive over, say, line 10, a switching member 26 moves the drum 27 down. wards so that the brushes 22 now engage with continuous contact rings 1, 2, 4, 5. At the same time the other switching member 26 is disabled. The alternating control of all the amplifiers along a line or of all the amplifiers at a repeating station may be synchronized. Instead of a commutator, polarized or non-polarized magnets may be used. At a repeating station of the type comprising a separate amplifier for each direction, the amplifiers are rendered inoperative alternatively by electrical or mechanical means.
