356,449. Screw-drivers, spanners, &c. GUEST, KEEN, & NETTLEFOLDS, Ltd. and DEACON, H., Heath Street, Birmingham. Aug. 25, 1930, No. 25281. [Classes 61 (i) and 61 (iii).] Toothed holding and clamping and contracting devices socket fixings.-A hand tool having removable bits, such as screw-driving bits, box-spanners, or drills, comprises a shank 1 the end of which is flattened at 10 and grooved at 8 to provide teeth adapted to engage complementary teeth on a bit 2, the parts being secured together by a slidable split ring 12 which is contracted by a screwed ring 17. In a modification, Fig. 6, the respective flats on the shank and bit are slightly inclined to the tool axis and the outer tooth 101 on a bit is slightly larger, and engages a shallower recess 9<1>, than the inner tooth 10. In this case the parts are locked together by a plain sliding ring 12. Hollow handles.-The handle of the tool may be provided with an axial cavity 19 to receive spare bits &c., and is closed by a screwed cap 20.
