Abstract

355,448. Ventilating vehicles. HOLMES, H., 4, Heald Grove, Rusholme, Manchester. July 10, 1930, No. 20854. [Class 137.] A ventilating roof for vehicles comprises a series of uniform hinged louvres e a c h cooperating with another, arranged transversely at the top of the vehicle structure, the louvres having up-turned and down-turned lateral edges and longitudinal edges for side drainage and being adapted to open to ventilate the interior. Each of the louvres 5 preferably of sheet metal has an up-turned front edge 6, and down-turned back edge 7 and side members 8 secured by rivets 13, and projecting downwardly into gutters 1 arranged at each side of the vehicle structure 2. At the front of each louvre the downturned sides are extended to form lever arms 12 and also shorter arms by which the louvre is pivoted at 9 to the inner wall 4 of the guttering. In the closed position the edges of the end louvres co-operate with plates 10,11 and the down-turned edge of one louvre with an up-turned edge of the succeeding louvre. The lever arms 12 are pivoted at 14 to longitudinal bars 15 which are actuated through known mechanism by the driver of the vehicle to open or close the louvres. The louvres may be arranged to be actuated in groups.
