Abstract

355,316. Cleaning sewers. SLADDEN, S. C., 420, Archer Street, Freeport, New York, U.S.A. May 9, 1930, No. 14337. [Class 99 (ii).] A self-propelling rotary nozzle for clearing sewers &c. has cutters mounted on it for cutting through obstructions in the sewer. The nozzle comprises a cap 5, Fig. 2, for attachment to a hose in which a nozzle 6 is mounted to rotate on ball bearings. The neck 10 of the nozzle has screwed into it a ring 12 having helical vanes 16, Fig. 3, connecting it to a converging tube 14 carrying an outwardly directed shield 17 also provided with helical vanes 18, Figs. 2 and 4. The shield 17 deflects in a backward direction to force the nozzle forward. Cutters comprising a plurality of longitudinal blades 19 are secured to the apparatus to cut through obstructions such as tree roots &c. in the sewer.
