Abstract

Water-soluble textile oils are obtained by treating paraffin oil or lubricating stocks or other mineral oil with sulphur trioxide or fuming sulphuric acid, recovering the sulphonates from the oil, e.g. as in Specification 127,159, [Class 91, Oils &c.], freeing them from entrained oil as by high proof alcohol, and adding the true mahogany sulphonates produced to the unsulphonated oil. 2,5-15-25 lbs. of sulphonates to 97,5-85-75 lb. of inert oil may be used. The viscosity may be reduced by adding petroleum or coal tar naphtha.
