[Class 52 (ii).] A folding bed comprises two hinged frames, one carrying the mattress, the other the bed linen, both pivoted in a cabinet or like piece of furniture. Fig. 1 shows a bed comprising a mattress frame 1 and a bed-linen frame 2 swinging about axes 5, 8 in standards 6<1> on a base 6, so that they can be lowered from the chain-line position to the full-line position. The frame 1 can be lowered independently of the frame 2 so as to serve with the mattress 3 as a settee. The frame 2, when lowered, rests, by means of stops 7, on the foot of the frame 1. Legs 9 are freely pivoted to the frame 1 ; their pivots each consist of a square projection 11a, Fig. 4, which enters a notch in the keyhole-shaped pivot opening 10. The legs 9 are adjustable in length, the feet 12, Fig. 7, being secured by blade springs 13 and teeth 14 engaging with notches 15. To hold the frames in their out-of-use position, a counterweight 44 and springs 45 are fitted at the head part of the frame 1, and near it is a tooth-like part engaged by a similar tooth on a foot lever upheld by a spring. The bed covers 26, 27, 31 are secured at their outer ends by suitable means, such as a plate 20, Fig. 8, mounted on swinging brackets 18 and screwed down by finger-pieces 4, and the bolster or pillow 30 is received in a pocket formed by folding the bed covers, which may be additionally secured by spring clips 25. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also other means for securing the bedclothes, folding mattresses, the mounting of the framework on wheels, and the adaptation to the bed of reading desks and lamps. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
