Abstract
354,252. Television and copying telegraphy. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Marconi House, Strand, London.-(Assignees of Ranger, R. H. ; 574, Parker Street, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 29, 1930, No. 13180. Convention date, May 3, 1929. [Class 40 (iii).] In a picture transmission system for multiplex working or for the simultaneous transmission of separate areas, light beams from sources 5 are reflected from adjacent areas at 11 on the picture surface 3, mounted on a rotating drum 1, as independent beams 53 .. 59 which pass through separate adjustable openings 45 .. 51 of a diaphragm 15. The separated beams are reflected from the surface 63 of a prism 61, and the outer beams 53<1>, 59<1> are reflected by prisms 67, 73 and 75, 89 on to photo-electric cells 79, 93. The inner beams 55<1>, 57<1> are deflected by prisms 69, 71 and directed to photo-electric cells 83, 87. The light beams may be chopped at different frequencies by a disc having a number of tracks of reflecting surfaces before reaching the cells 79 .. 93. The separate cells may be replaced by a pair of elongated photo-electric cells which are arranged to receive the light reflected from all the paths on the chopping disc. The picture may be scanned by moving the cylinder 1 or the light sources 5 in a longitudinal direction, and after each longitudinal scanning rotating the cylinder by an amount corresponding to the number of lines simultaneously scanned. For television transmission the drum 1 is replaced by a flat surface, and the picture may be scanned by a lens disc arranged to provide a number of distinct scanning rays.
