353,454. Miners' &c. lamps. PLUMMER, R. J. and CEAG, Ltd., Queen's Road, Barnsley. April 22, 1930, No. 12447. [Classes 75 (i), 75 (iii), and 75 (iv).] Lighting burners by electric devices; extinguishing wick burners.-A gas-detecting device for use in safety lamps has means which automatically extinguish the flame or prevent ignition of the wick unless positively prevented from doing so. The depression of the lever 15 rotates the spindle 14 and depresses lever 16, which pulls rod 17 against the action of the spring 19, and lowers the extinguisher 20 so that its forked end embracing the wick tube exposes the wick. At the same time an extension 23 of one arm of the fork of the extinguisher completes the circuit of the filament 22. The latter has a support 21 attached to the oil vessel supports. The member 20 may be adjusted along the axis of the rod 17 to regulate the exposure of the wick.
