I TIME-CONTROLLED LAMP-LIGHTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 23, 1919.
Application filed August 10, 1917. Serial No. 185,577.
nism including the necessary mechanism for giving an alarm at a predetermined hour, a lamp adapted to be carried by a casing in which the clock is mounted, with igniting means operated by the alarm mechanism, for the purpose of furnishing illumination when the said mechanism is operated.
The device is especially useful in sick rooms and is also useful in connection with any alarm clock when the latter is to be set for operation before day-light.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangementof elements hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a view of the device in front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a rear view showing a form in which an oil tank of the lamp is included within the casing.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the casing of Fig. 1.
A casing adapted to inclose the clock mechanism and to support the lamp is designated 10 and is provided with an opening 12 in the front wall thereof through which the dial of the clock is visible. The clock mechanism is of a suitable commercial type, any minor changes required in the size or proportions of the elements thereof being of course provided. The clock 14: includes an alarm mechanism, the main winding arbor of which is designated 15 and carries an arm 16 provided at the free end thereof with a tubular member 17 for carrying a match adapted to light the lamp when the alarm is released at any predetermined hour.
The burner of the lamp is designated 18 and one portion thereof may be provided with a cut away portion at 20 permitting the operation of the arm carrying the match. A lam burner of any suitable type modified as a ove is employed, and this burner may be mounted on the upper portion of the casing in any suitable manner, and if desired an oil tank for the lamp may be provided independently, this tank 22 being located below the upper frame member of the casing. The construction last mentioned is shown as a modification in Fig. 2.
of the drawing.
The arm carrying the match is under the control of a coil spring 25 connected with the casing, and suitably located is a friction member 26 with which the match is brought into contact when the alarm mechanism is released.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a casing and an alarm clock mechanism mounted therein, of an arm carried by the winding element of the alarm mechanism, a spring connecting said arm with the casing and actin to throw said arm when released by the a arm mechanism, a lamp carried by the casing and including an independent oil tank within the casing and a burner mounted above the casing, said burner being cutaway along a vertical line adjacent to the wick tube to permit of the movement of a match, means carried by the arm for supporting the match with one end projecting into the cutaway portion, and a friction member in the path of movement of the match and in line with the cutaway portion of the burner.
2. The combination with a casing and an alarm clock mechanism mounted therein, of an arm carried by the winding element of the alarm mechanism, a spring connected with the arm and with the casing and acting to throw the arm when released by the alarm mechanism, a lamp carried by the casing, means carried by the arm for holding a match, and a friction element in the path of movement of the match.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
OLLIE M. BURGHFIEL.
