[Class 52 (iii).] A book holder comprises, at one side, main leaf holders capable of being spread apart, and at the other side a holding bar for the portion of the book already read, and tongues for the pages read since the book was set in place. Figs. 1 and 2 show a holder comprising two holding-members A, B and adjustable supports C on a base D. The member B has independent holding-arms 1, 2, and the member A has a holding-bar 3 mounted on jointed arms 4 with tongues 5 for retaining those leaves which are turned over after the book is placed in position. The arms 4 are mounted on a slide 7, are pressed down by springs 8, and may be lifted by a handle 9. The arms 1, 2 are mounted in slides 12, 13 on a bar 14, and are adjusted by rack-and-pinion devices 15, 16, 17 operated by a hand-wheel 18. The bar 14 is mounted on a slide 22, which is displaceable along a guide 24. The arm 1 carries a knife-like member 25 adapted to separate a few leaves and to hold down the main body of leaves. The arm 2 has a conical roller 29 which bears on the few leaves referred to. The baseplate D may be attached to a horizontal arm on a stand so as to hold the book in an inverted position in order that it may be read by a person lying down.
