Abstract

Wood is preserved by means of an aqueous solution of potassium or sodium ferricyanide or ferrocyanide, with or without the addition of alcohol or methylated spirit. The wood may be immersed in \yC the solution, or the solution may be brushed or sprayed on to the wood. Tannic acid or sodium chloride may be added to the solution. A small quantity of potassium permanganate may be added to accelerate the formation of ferrous ferricyanide in the wood. The treatment prevents attack by fungi, and kills any existing fungi.
