Abstract

352,579. Cigarette-milking machines. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(American Machine & Foundry Co. ; 511, 5th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) April 23, 1930, No. 12527. [Class 130.] The quantity of tobacco delivered by a feeding mechanism is varied by altering the speed of a filler or measuring drum, without altering the speed of the other parts of the feeding mechanism. The pins of a filler drum 14 remove the tobacco T picked up by the drum 12, and the surplus tobacco is thrown back into the magazine. Sleeves 22, 23 on shafts driving the drums 12, 14 carry expanding pulleys 24-26, 25-27 connected by a V- shaped link belt 28. The sliding members 26, 27 of the pulleys have recesses 31, 32 in which are rollers 33, 34 pivoted to a lever 35 supported on the main frame. This lever 35 carries rollers 38 engaging an annular groove in a hand-wheel 40. The belt is kept in tension by a spring-loaded jockey pulley. By turning the hand-wheel 40, the lever 35 alters the speed of the pulleys 24-26, 25-27, and changes the amount of tobacco fed by the drum 14. The tobacco is removed by a picker roller 47 and a fan 48, and falls on to a moving belt 49, which delivers it through a guide shoot 53 to the cigarette paper P.
