Abstract

352,544. Connecting fittings to mains under pressure. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, and COTTER, E. W., 78, Dacres Road, Forest Hill, both in London. April 11, 1930, No. 11613. [Class 99 (i).] A fitting, such as a cock c, is secured to a pressure main a by means of a sleeve d which is both externally threaded to screw into a tapped hole in the main and internally threaded to receive a ferrule b on the cock. The sleeve accommodates a tightlyfitting valve member made in two parts e, e<1> which screw together, the part e being provided with a flange, which may bear against the inner side of a flange d<2> of the sleeve, and the part e<1> being formed with ports e<2> and a flange e3 for engaging with the outer side of the said flange d<2>. Before the sleeve is screwed into the main the valve member is arranged to be in the position shown in Fig. 1, and an adapter f, f<1> is engaged with the upper end thereof through the screw-threaded portion f. The part f of the adapter is of such size that it cannot contact with the valve, and the portion f<1> is slotted to receive a tool for rotating the sleeve. After insertion of the sleeve the adapter is removed therefrom and the drilling &c. apparatus removed from the main, whereupon the cock c is screwed into the sleeve, the ferrule b being sufficiently long to open fully the valve e, el.
