Abstract

352,540. Moulding rubber caps for protecting pipes. VICTAULIC CO., Ltd., Kings Buildings, Dean Stanley Street, Millbank, London, and JOHNSON, P. G., Brackley, South View, Letchworth, Hertfordshire. April 11, 1930, No. 11577. [Class 87 (ii).] A device for protecting the screwed ends of pipes b comprises a detachable cap a, of soft rubber, formed on the outside with ribs a<1> and on the inside with a screw thread a<2>. An inturned flange a<3> protects the end of the pipe ; alternatively the end of the cap may be closed or arranged to receive a disc to close the end of the pipe. The walls of the cap may be strengthened by the insertion of canvas, metal gauge, woven wire or the like. A mould for making the cap is shown in Fig. 3, and comprises a core portion c, a body portion d and a cover plate e. The core is formed with a screwed portion cl and a recessed portion c<2> corresponding to the flange a<3>. The body portion d is formed with grooves to form the ribs a<1>. The cover plate is bored at e<2> to receive a centring projection c3 on the core and is positioned in relation to the body d by projections and recesses e<1>, d<1> and secured by screws f.
