Abstract

352,422. Re-forging worn fishplates. McKENNA PROCESS CO., Joliet, Illinois, U.S.A. April 7, 1930, No. 11058. Convention date, April 10, 1929. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Fishplates 9, Fig. 11, for the joints of rails 10, and which become worn about the middle are heated and pressed between dies 32 which thin the web 9a and flange 7a about the middle, and force the top and bottom bearing surfaces up and down respectively to take up the wear. The dies are so proportioned that this thinning merges into tapering to the original thickness at the ends of plates. When the rails themselves are worn also, the fishplates arc pressed to give extra height and depth about the middle or crowning as in Fig. 9 to take up wear. Fig. 17 shows a modification in which the plates are pressed in at 41, 42, 43 to provide surplus metal to take up the wear. Other modifications are shown.
