[Class 52 (i).] Bookcases and filing cabinets of the kind arranged in series, back to face, with their edges forming a closed wall in a frame are suspended on runways so that any case may be withdrawn at right-angles to the wall to afford access to the contents. Fig. 1 shows in plan sets of bookcases 2 set edgewise with respect to the partition walls 1 of a library and to the alleyways 2a between them. Any of these cases may be drawn into the alleyway, and are for this purpose suspended on trolleys and guided at their lower ends as shown in Fig. 3. The runway 7 is formed by an inverted U -section beam with guide rails 10 for the wheels 9 of the suspension device 12. At the lower end of the case is aT-piece 13 running between two guide-rollers 14 on a bracket 15. The end of each case has a handle, Fig. 7, forming also a buffer. This handle consists of an ebonite grip 20 on an iron tube 21 uniting endpieces 22 in which are springs 26 and buffer heads 23 ; the buffer stems 24 are united by a rod 25.
