Abstract

351,469. Gramophones. OWEN, C. R., 7, Willow Way, Didsbury, Manchester. March 25, 1930, No. 9453. [Class 40 (ii).] A gramophone sound-box or electric pick-up is carried by a frame which is supported from a horizontal guide-bar on pairs of antifriction rollers arranged with parallel axes and engaging the guide-bar only at the edges of their peripheries. As shown in plan in Fig. 1 and side view in Fig. 3, a horizontal member a is supported from the baseboard c by pillars b, b. Mounted on the member a is a light frame, comprising rods f, f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, f<4>, carrying an electric pick-up d, and engaging the member c through two sets of antifriction rollers e<1>, e<2>, e<3>. The rods f<1>, f<2> adjustably fit lugs g, g, in the ends of tubular rods on which are mounted the bearings of the rollers e<3>, the rollers e<1>, e2 being journalled on vertical rods h, h. The rollers are arranged so that the frame hangs on the member a only by the two sets of runners e<1>, e<2>. When not in use the frame is kept raised by resting on a stud k carried by an arm k<1>. When used with talking- picture apparatus, the pillar brackets b, b may be resiliently supported to prevent the transmission of vibrations. Similar constructions are described which are applicable to a portable gramophone and also, Fig. 6, to a cabinet gramophone. In the latter case, the sound-box is carried by a tube n<1> to which is fitted the runners el, e<2>, e3. To the tube n<1> is connected a further tube n<2> in two telescoping parts to the lower of which is connected a horn n<3> by means of a swivel connection.
