Abstract

718,544. Process cameras. PICTORIAL MACHINERY, Ltd. April 23, 1952, No. 10202/52. Class 98(1) In combination with a darkroom, the camera comprises an upstanding pillar or tower, a horizontal rigid beam passing through a wall of the darkroom and supported by the pillar in an elevated position off the ground or floor, the pillar being secured to the beam at a position between the ends thereof so that the end portions of the beam form cantilevers that project beyond the pillar, a copyholder outside the darkroom and suspended from one end portion of the beam, a lens holder suspended from the beam behind the copyholder, and a negative-plate holder within the darkroom and suspended from the other end portion of the beam behind the lens holder, the three holders depending below the beam and being mounted for relative traversing movement along the beam to change the size of the image of the copy. Preferably the copyholder is fixed in position on its end of the beam and the other two holders are movable, and the lens holder is within the darkroom and may be connected to an aperature in the wall thereof by bellows. As shown (Fig. 2) a metal tube constituting the beam has left hand portion 3U within darkroom 10, a central portion within darkroom annex 11 and supported by tower 12 with uprights 13 resting at 14 on a rigid foundation 15, and right hand portion 31 projecting beyond the annex and carrying a framing 40 for a copyholder 41. Carriage 42 movable on rail track 38 carries a lens support 51 mounted for transverse swivelling movement and provided with lens 60 and bellows 64, the latter making a lighttight connection with an aperture 63 in annex wall 62. A similar carriage 39 carries a holder 65 for a negative plate 66 and a focusing screen 67 shown vertically below the negative plate 66, this assembly being within the actual darkroom 10. A pinion 81 in mesh with a rack 86 on the underside of rail track 38 and chain driven from hand wheel 77 near the top of holder 65 enables traversing movement of the assembly along the rails; another handwheel 87 on the holder 65 connected by sprocket 91, chain 90 and Figs. 8, 9 and 18 (not shown), a shaft 97 parallel to the rails and in mesh with a pinion 100 on the carriage 42 enables traversing of the latter and its suspended lens support 51. thus the normal camera operations can be effected by an operator standing by the plate holder without having to leave the darkroom except for change of copy or illumination of the latter. A similar combined negative plate holder and focusing screen is described in Specification 718,545.
