Abstract

Low-grade resin or turpentine is treated to yield a light-coloured colophony and spirits of turpentine, by adding to the resin 15-75 per cent of its weight of spirits of turpentine; heating the mixture until the resin is dissolved and decanting the resinous solution from the water and impurities. The resinous solution is filtered and distilled with steam to yield as residue colophony, and as distillate, spirits of turpentine consisting of the added quantity together with that contained in the resin.
