Abstract
1 : 2 : 21-anthraquinoneazine derivatives are obtained by treating 1 : 2 : 21 : 11-anthraquinoneazines with formaldehyde or agents supplying the same, followed by halogenating, if desired. According to examples, pure anthraquinone 1 : 2 : 21 : 11-azine obtained by the oxidation of the dihydroazine with manganese dioxide or nitric acid is treated with paraformaldehyde in concentrated sulphuric acid, followed by heating, to obtain the azine, or followed by chlorinating with sulphuryl chloride, and the 3-chloro derivative of the above azine is treated with paraformaldehyde. Specifications 20527/04, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], 320,397, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], 343,994, and 346,328, are referred to. 3-Chloranthraquinone 1 : 2 : 21 : 11-azine is obtained by condensing 2 : 3-dichlor-1-aminoanthraquinone with 2-brom-1-aminoanthraquinone.
