Abstract

Arylamides of salicylic acid are ground or milled in water in the presence of wetting agents to produce pasty aqueous dispersions suitable for proofing textiles against mildew and other fungoid growths. Suitable wetting agents are soaps and sulphonated organic compounds of high molecular weight. Sulphonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensation products and sulphite cellulose pitch are particularly effective. In an example, 25 parts of anhydrous salicylic anilide are ground with 25 parts of water and 2.5 parts of a 50 per cent. solution of the sodium salt of the sulphonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensation product prepared as in Example (1) of Specification 7137/13, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], until the particles are reduced in size to about 1 m . Specification 323,579 [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], is referred to.ALSO:Arylamides of salicylic acid are ground or milled in water in the presence of wetting agents to produce pasty aqueous dispersions suitable for treating mildew and other fungoid growths in textiles. Suitable wetting agents are soaps and sulphonated organic compounds of high molecular weight. In an example, 25 parts of anhydrous salicylic anilide are ground with 25 parts of water and 2,5 parts of a 50 per cent solution of the sodium salt of the sulphonated naphthalene-formaldehyde condensation product prepared as in example (1) of Specification 7137/31, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], until the particles are reduced in size to about 1m . Specification 323,579, [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], is referred to.
