Abstract

350,138. Kinematograph apparatus. GRAMOPHONE CO., Ltd. and STANLEY, H. H. V., 79, North Hyde Road, both in Hayes, and CLARK, G. F., 39, Brandville Road, West Drayton, both in Middlesex. April 15, 1930, No. 11942. [Class 97 (i).] The film-winding spool is driven through a freewheel clutch 14, 19 of special construction, allowing overrunning in both directions when the drive ceases and in some cases also a bidirectional drive. The clutch comprises a two-armed pivoted pawl 17 moved into or out of engagement with a driven ratchet ring 19 by the limited relative movement,. under the influence of inertia, of a flywheel 14 freely mounted on the driving shaft 1. The pawl is pivoted on the flywheel and deceleration thereof relative to the driver causes the tail 15 of the pawl to contact with a projection 12 on a boss 11 fixed to the driving shaft 1, to engage the pawl. The pawl is biassed towards the disengaged position, by a spring 16 anchored to an arm 13 on the boss 11 and there may be a stop pin 22 on the flywheel to ensure a slight tension of the spring when in the disengaged position. Duplicate opposite pawls may be provided for a bidirectional drive. There may also be a friction drag tending to cause the flywheel to lay behind the driving shaft. The clutch which is driven by a shaft 1 is mounted in bearings 2, 4 on the side of the casing of the film spool, to theshaft 7 of which, the driven shaft 3 is connected by worm gearing 5.
