Abstract
349,524. Vulcanizing tyres. FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., Gt. West Road, Brentford, Middlesex.-(Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.; Akron, Ohio, U.S.A.) Nov. 21, 1929, No. 5516/31. Divided on 344,345. [Class 70.] A tyre-vulcanizing mould having a series of depressions in the moulding surface for moulding a non-skid thread, is provided with suction means for withdrawing air or gases from the depressions as the rubber becomes plastic. Means may also be provided for insulating the outside of the heating chambers. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the mould 20, 21 is surrounded by a space 34 adapted to be evacuated by a pipe 35 whereby an insulating vacuum is provided and air is withdrawn from the mould through the crack between the mould halves. The mould halves are adapted to be forced together by a ram 22 which carries the upper mould half. In a modification, Fig. 3, the vacuum jacket is dispensed with, and an annular vacuum chamber 34a is provided around the crack between the mould halves. The lower mould half 20a is carried by a ram 22a. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 298,140, [Class 70, Indiarubber &c.].
