Abstract

349,260. Hydraulic turbines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, and SEEWER, P. W., 11, Wildwood Road, Hampstead Garden Suburb, both in London. April 29, 1930, No. 13164. [Class 110 (iii).] Apparatus for utilizing tidal energy comprises a turbine 4, Fig. 1, located between passages 7, 8 and 9, 10 in a dam 1 disposed between tidal water and a reservoir, and rotatable pipe bends &c. 11, 12 adapted to place opposite ends of the turbine passage into communication with either side of the dam. By arranging the two portions of each through passage at an angle of 120‹ to one another the bends may be moved to assume a third position, Fig. 5, in which they act as valves for shutting off the water supply to the turbine. Additional sluice valves may be provided in the upper passage for use when dismantling the apparatus.
