Abstract
Azo dyes; azo dyes, forming on the material.-Azo dyes are made in substance or on a substratum by coupling a diazotized 1-amino-2 : 3-trimethylbenzene halogenated in the 4-position with an arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid, free from groups rendering the dyestuffs soluble in water. In examples (1) cotton impregnated with 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl - 11 - amino - 21 - methoxy - 41-chlorobenzene is developed with diazotized 1-amino-4 chloro-2 : 3 : 5-trimethylbenzene; a fast vivid blueish Turkey red is obtained, (2) using 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl - 11 - amino - 41 - chloro-21 : 51-dimethoxybenzene (Specification 331,247, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], as in (1) a vivid clear Turkey red is obtained, (3) diazotized 1-amino-4-chloro-2 : 3 : 5-trimethylbenzene is coupled with 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl-11-amino-21 : 51-dimethoxybenzene. Other diazo components specified are the 4-bromo- and 4-iododerivatives and other coupling components the 2 : 3-oxynaphthoyl derivatives of o-toluidine, o-anisidine, 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-chlorobenzene, 1-amino-2 : 3-dimethoxybenzene, 1-amino-4-chloro-2 : 3 : 5-trimethylbenzene, 1-amino-4-chloro-2 : 5-diethoxybenzene (Specification 332,932, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]), 1-amino-4-chloro-3-methyl-6-methoxybenzene, a - and b -naphthylamine, 1-amino-4-methoxynaphthalene, (Specification 306,415, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]), 2-amino-3-methoxynaphthalene (Specification 309,879, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]), and o-phenetidine. Specifications 6379/12 and 17279/13, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], also are referred to. 1-Amino-4-halogen-2 : 3 : 5-trimethylbenzenes are made by the chlorination, bromination, and iodination respectively of 1-amino-2 : 3 : 5-trimethylbenzene. Arylides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid.-The arylides specified are made from 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and the corresponding base. 1-Amino - 4 - chloro-2 : 5-diethoxybenzene is made by reducing 1 - nitro - 2 : 5 - diethoxybenzene and chlorinating.
