Abstract

Azo dyes insoluble in water are made in substance, on a substratum or on the fibre by coupling diazo compounds of amines of the formula <FORM:0441855/IV/1> (in which R=a residue of the benzene or naphthalene series) with arylides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid. They yield fast scarlet and red shades. In examples dyes from the following components are described: 1-amino-2 : 4-, 2 : 5- or 3 : 5-dibenzoylbenzene, 1 - amino-2 : 5 - di - (p - methyl - or p - chlorobenzoyl) - benzene; the 2<1> : 3<1> - oxynaphthoyl derivatives of 1 - amino - 4 - chloro - 2 : 5 - dimethoxybenzene, o- or p-anisidine, 1-amino-2 : 5-dimethoxybenzene, 1-amino-2 : 4-dimethoxy-5-chlorobenzene, o-phenetidine, o-toluidine, a - or b -naphthylamine, 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chlorobenzene. Specifications 6379/12, [Class 2 (iii)], 17279/13, 331,247, 332,208, [all in Class 15 (ii)], and 343,419 are referred to. Amino-diaroyl compounds of the above type are made by condensing according to Friedel-Craft's reaction nitro-aryldicarboxylic acid chlorides with aromatic hydrocarbons which may contain further substituents but no group rendering the product water-soluble, and reducing.
