Abstract
348,608. Gramophones. TUDSBERY, H. T., 64, Wellington R o a d, Edgbaston, Birmingham, and COLLARO, C., Culmore Works, Culmore e Road, Peckham, London. Feb. 12, 1930, No. 4796. [Class 40 (ii).] Means whereby the spiral groove of a disc sound-record is moved with a constant linear speed relatively to the stylus comprises a cam 22 which is moved by the tone-arm 4 so as to cause pivotal movement of an arm 28 carrying a brake pad acting upon the governor disc 30 of the motor, and in order that a change in the average speed of the turntable may be effected the pivot of the brakepad arm 28 is mounted so as to be movable in a rectilineal path. A bracket 7 on the tone-arm 4 has a pin 8 which passes through a slot 9 in a baseplate 1 and engages one end of a spring- controlled lever 10 connected by a pin 12 with a hook-shaped member 13. The lever 10 carries a pin 21 engaging the cam surface 22 of a pivoted lever which at one end is pivotally connected with a link 26 adapted to operate the brake-pad arm 28. The arm 28 is pivotally connected by a screw 41 to an arm 42 mounted upon a slide 43 engaging the edge of a portion 44 of the frame of the motor. A pin 45 on the slide 43 extends through a slot in the plate 1 and enters a cam slot 46 in a plate 47 which is pivoted on a pin 48. An operating arm 49 is connected to the plate 47 by a screw 51 passing through a slot 52 in the arm 49. As the tone-arm moves across the record, the pin 21 is caused to travel over the cam lever 22, which thereby moves the brake-pad away from the governor disc and effects an increase in the angular speed of the turntable. The lever 10 is set to its correct initial position by the movement of the tone-arm into starting position. When using records which rotate at constant angular speed a rotatable plate 16, engaging in a slot 14 in the hook-shaped member 13, is turned so that when the tone-arm is moved to its starting position the pin 8 on the bracket 7 is disengaged from the lever 10. Adjustment of the speed of the turntable is effected by altering the pivotal position of the lever 28 by means of the arm 49 and slide 43.
