Abstract

A heating agent, particularly for initiating combustion, comprises wood charcoal obtained at a carbonizing temperature above 700 DEG C. and having an ignition temperature below 260 DEG C. The charcoal may be brought into contact with water vapour during carbonization. Ignition temperature may be determined by heating the finely powdered charcoal in a U-tube in a sand bath and observing when a sudden increase in temperature of the charcoal takes place.
