Abstract
347,678. Folding umbrellas&c. ANDERSON, E., DRETZIN, S. C., GEIGER, E. H., and GILBERT, H. W., 11, West 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 25, 1930, No. 2658. [Class 134.] An umbrella or the like, adapted to rest on the head or hat of a wearer, is formed from a single piece of sheet material, e.g. waterproofed paper, which when in its opened position is in the form of a pyramid having creased straight edges 11 forming hinges about which the sheet may be folded to collapse the umbrella, the sides 10 remaining flat in the collapsed position; means such as a doubledover portion secured by fasteners 16 are provided to hold the umbrella in its opened position. The doubling over provides a pocket for gripping the umbrella and causes it to take up a dished form when open. To facilitate folding there are an even number of creases, and in order to stiffen the surface triangular areas between the edges 11 may be crossed by a light score on the under side. The periphery may be scalloped.
