Abstract
347,676. Conveying motion through fluidtight flexible walls; rotary engines and pumps. RESTANY, J. L. L., 28, Rue Bobillot, Paris. Jan. 24, 1930, No. 2593. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (iii).] Devices of the kind for transmitting circular, elliptical, or similar motion through a flexible fluidtight wall i of metal, paper, leather, fabric, &c. in one or more layers are provided with means which prevent rotational distortion of the wall from exceeding a predetermined limit. The wall i, Fig. 1, is clamped between hemispheres f, #<1> engaging sockets in the casing c and carrying arms e, e<1> connected to the driving-shaft a by a crank d and to the driven shaft a<1> by bevel wheels j, j<1> fixed on the arm and shaft, respectively. A pin k in the casing engaging a slot k<1> in the sphere imposes a limited rotational stress upon the wall i. Fluid supplied through ports x may protect the wall i from fluid in the casing c. In a modification, Fig. 2, conical movement of the arm e<1> is effected by a swash-plate w on the driving-shaft a engaging a disc l secured to the hemisphere #<1> and to the wall i. A pin k and slot are provided. Figs. 3 and 4 showla modification of the device shown in Fig. 2 adapted to act as a fluid motor or pump, in which the disc l is secured to cylindrically faced members q, q<1> engaging corresponding surfaces on a part p cylindrically curved at right-angles to the members q, q<1> to engage the casing c<1>. The member q<1> constitutes a vane moving in a chamber s, the spaces in which connect in turn to fluid ports r, r<1> through passages t, t<1> in the part p, which rocks as the shaft a turns. By the use of suitable connections between the shafts and the wall, elliptical or other motion may be transmitted between the shafts, which may oscillate or rotate continuously.
