Abstract
347,378. Vehicle doors. LIGHTALLOYS, Ltd., Alpax Works, St. Leonards Road, Willesden Junction, and GRIEVE, W. H., 29, Bramham Gardens, South Kensington, London. Feb. 26, 1930, No. 6377. [Class 103 (ii).] In the manufacture of metal doors for railway carriages and like vehicles, the entire exterior panel 4, main stiles 1, and transverse strengthening ribs or rails 2 together with abutments 5 for the window pads and balancing gear, brackets 7 for blind runners and reinforcements 26 for buffer stops 27 are embodied in a single casting, preferably of aluminium or like light metal. The window garnish rail and draught excluder 9 are also preferably made of aluminium &c. but may be of timber, and are hinged to a fixed metal rail 11 secured to the main casting. Above the window opening a ventilator hood 12 is either formed integrally with the main casting or is secured thereto on the exterior of the door, while a panel 19 with sliding shutter 20 is disposed on the interior. The window runs are formed in two parts 13, 14 of aluminium, steel, brass or wood, the part 13 being fixed to the main casting, while the part 14 is removably secured thereto and is furnished with blind ratchets 15. Jamb faces may be formed integrally with the main casting as shown at 16, or separate strips of metal, rubber, fibre or wood 17 may be employed.
