Abstract
347,295. Buoyant lifesaving chambers. JARMAN, W. H., 3987, Marine Drive, Kerrisdale, Vancouver, Canada. March 10, 1930, No. 27104/29. [Class 68 (i).] A lifesaving device for submarine &c. vessels comprises a chamber 4 built into the vessel and provided with a door 5 leading to the vessel and an outer door 3 operable from within the vessel ; within the chamber is a buoy 17 with a ballast tank 22 normally flooded but provided with a discharge pipe 23 and a pipe 24 connected to an air reservoir 31, whereby the ballast tank may be emptied. The buoy 17 is connected by a composite cable 11 to a drum 10, the cable 11 containing wires for lighting, telephone and wireless services and also air inlet and outlet hose connected at one end through the drum shaft 9 and pipes 15, 16 to air exhaust and supply pumps, and at the other end to air supply and exhaust pipes 33, 36 in the buoy ; the pipe 33 has a cowl 34 and the pipe 36 has a siren 37. A further drum 12 carries a light cable 13 connected to a heavy lifting cable and also to the buoy at 14. The buoy is provided further with a door 25, port holes 26 and a telescopic wireless mast 29 with antenna 30 normally housed in a cup 27. A pipe 41 permits flooding of the chamber 4 when the buoy is to be released.
