[Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v).] In a television receiver, in which a phonic motor 19 is energized by a component of the signalling-current corresponding to the strip frequency, as described in the parent Specification, one thermionic valve 14 supplies impulses to the motor, and another 13 supplies impulses to a source of light 16, and a coupling between the valves alters the phase of the impulses applied to one valve relatively to the impulses applied to the other valve. The coupling consists of a transformer 15 between the anode of the valve 13 and the grid of the valve 14 or of a resistance-capacity coupling (Fig. 2, not shown). Alternatively the signals are applied to the two grids through a transformer having a divided or double secondary winding (Fig. 3, not shown). The grid bias of the valve 14 is of such magnitude that the impulse can only operate the motor when they reach a certain maximum value.
