Abstract

346,648. Match books. DIETMANN,. P. W., Villa Annero, J÷nk÷ping, Sweden.- Oct. 10, 1930, No. 30427. [Class 94 (i).] A strip 1 of cardboard or the like is formed with partially cut matches 2 at the longitudinal edges and with perforations 5 between each pair of opposite matches. The undivided central portion is secured by adhesive to the centre of a strip 3 provided with striking surfaces 4, 41 and the material which lies between each opposite pair of match spaces and the corresponding portion of the strip 3 is removed by cutting, resulting in independent strips B. These are severed into sections 7 which are folded about scorings 8 to form the package shown in Fig. 2, each match being attached to a tongue 6 integral with, the material of the strip 3. The tongues may be weakened at the bases by incision or moistening to facilitate removal. The material between the tongues, instead of being removed, may be separated by cutting and bent down inside the package to serve as guideways for the matches when being drawn out. In a modification, Fig. 3, the central perforations are omitted and the cutting of the matches is completed by a zig-zag cut 9. The packages may be held in the closed position by adhesive or by a metal clip to ensure ignition on withdrawing the matches.
