My invention relates to a safety razor blade package in which the razor blades are wrapped within a strip preferably of Wax paper and in a manner that the blades are separated from each other and the cutting edges protected. Other material than paper may be employed and an adhesive other than Wax may be emplo ed.
The general object 0 my invention is to provide a safety razor blade package characterized by a single strip or sheet of paper adapted to fold on lines separating the strip into panels and in which a razor blade is carried by each panel.
The invention furthermore has for an object to provide novel modes of holding the blades to the waxpaper strip.
The nature of my invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of practical examples of the invention.
Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view showing a portion of my improved strip, the vieW being given to show a depression receiving the blade of the form illustrated in said figure so that the blade lies within the plane of the face of the strip;
Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2222 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing a depression for a different shape of blade, the depression for the blade being disposed lengthwise of the strip instead of transversely as in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross section on the line 24-24 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figures 1 and 3 but showing a depression in the strip of a. form to receive a blade including a beaded or thickened back edge portion, also received in said depression;
Figure 6 is a cross section on the line 2626 of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 6 but with the paper strip adapted to enfold the blade proper, the thickened back edge or head being disposed at a side of the package; and
Figure 8 is a cross section on the line 28-28 of Figure 7 illustrating the bellows-folds form of the strip.
In the form of my invention illustrated in the figures, a sin le elongated strip of wax paper is covere Said strip is scored transversely to separate the strip into a series of panels foldable at the score lines. Each panel except the panel at one end receives a razor blade. At the opposite end of the strip from the panel said strip may advantageously have a shorter tab or panel.
In the forms of my invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, a single elongated strip of paper 1130 is employed. Said strip is scored transversely as at 1131 to separate it into a series of panels foldable at the score lines. Each panel except the panel 1132 at one end receives a razor blade, 7. At the end of the strip opposite the panel 1132, the strip may be provided with a shorter tab or panel 1133. The blades are illustrated in these figures as disposed transversely of the strip, as is also true of the embodiments of Figures 5 and 7, Whereas, in Figure 3. the blades are shown as arranged longitudinally of the strip.
For purposes of causing the blade to adhere to the strip, the strip may be formed of Wax paper to Which the blades may be caused to adhere by applying heat in any suitable manner. For example, in the topmost blade of Figure 1, there is indicated a central local area, 34, running transversely with the blades and indicating so much of the wax as has been subjected to heat, so that the razor blade will be held in position. The use of any particular form of adhesive is not essential and,
in fact, while the use of an adhesive possesses advantages, its use can be dispensed with in view of the depressions in the strip in which the blades are to be received and now more fully to be described.
In Figures 1 to 8 the strips are formed with depressions to receive the blades flush with the surface of the wax paper and said figures represent various forms of depressions to accommodate different forms of blades. In Figures 1 and 2 the strip 1130 has a depres sion 40 of a shape to receive a novel blade 9 forming part of my invention. It will be observed that blade 9 has angular ends, the end edges being tapered from each side of the 5 blade toward the medial line. The depression 40 formed to receive said blade 9 is wider than the blade so that the edges do not contact with the edges of the strip and the blade is held against displacement in its own plane. 10 At the ends the depression 40 is angular to correspond with the tapered or angular ends of the blade, The purpose of the angular blade is that it can be placed in a depression such as 40 with its angular end edges and will then be held against displacement in the plane of the blade so that the cutting edges of the blade are at all times held out of the possibility of contacting with the sides of the depression. In Figures 3 and 4, the strip 1230 has a depression 140 of a shape to receive the blade e. In Figures 5 and 6 the strip 1330 has a depression 240 of a shape to receive the blade 7'' with its thickened back edge In Figures 7 and 8 the strip 1430 has epres- 5 sions340 of a form to receive the blade portion 7, the thickened edge f of the blade being disposed at the sides of the package.
In the several forms, Figures 3 to 8, it is understood that the fragments shown represent the single strips previouslyireferred to and having score lines to form folds to produce panels each one of which except the end panels carries its own blade, and the blades are positioned with their cutting edges as remote from the bends or fold lines of the panels.
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated examples constitute practical embodiments of my invention, I do not limit 49 myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, as shown, the details can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in theappended claims.
5 Having thus described my invention, I
claim:
1. A blade package comprising a single strip foldable into panels, adhesive material thereon, a plurality of adjacent panels 50 having depressions therein, and blades disposed in said depressions, adjacent panels being folded the one onto another to position each blade between two thicknesses of the strip, the adhesive material servin to hold'the blades onto the strip and to hol the strip in folded form.
2. A blade package comprising a single strip foldable into panels, a plurality of adjacent panels having depressions therein, and
blades disposed in said depressions with the central part of the cutting edges remote from the walls of the depression, adjacent panels being folded to position each blade between two thicknees of the strip.
