[Class 136 (i).] A folding splash guard comprises a flexible screen suspended by a system of pivoted links connected at their upper ends to a container and to a spring-pressed sliding bar therein, in such a way that the guard is yieldable and self-adjusting when extended for use, and is capable of being folded into or adjacent to the container so as to be entirely clear of the wheel when not in use. A rubber, leather, &c, screen N is connected by a hinge to a plate M suspended by two sets of links, which are pivoted at V, W to a hinged part A of a container C and at X, Y to a sliding bar B controlled by a spring D, the part A being shown as opened out about the hinge S to facilitate access to the mechanism. The links are adapted to fold into the container C, and to be secured therein by a clamping-nut Z acting on the bar B and also by a safety catch associated with an adjustable stop 3. The unfolding movement of the guard is limited by the stop 3, which acts on a pin 4 attached to the plate B and may be adjusted to regulate the height of the guard above the ground. The container C is pivoted at Q to brackets R on the mudguard T, and is adapted to be turned down into a horizontal position above the mudguard, the container being secured in either position by means of pivoted arms and clamping- screws. Catches O, P, pivoted to the plate M, hold the screen N in the vertical plane when in use.
