Abstract

345,997. Separating solid materials. MASTERMAN, A. T., 3, Kedale Road, Seaford, Sussex. Dec. 30, 1929, No. 39808. [Class 117.] Apparatus for separating and grading granular materials comprises a combination of a jet 1, Fig. 1, from which the particles are projected so as to fall at distances proportional to their weight, and an inclined plate 5, Fig. 2, down which the partially graded particles slide with velocities depending on their frictional properties, and from which they are carried into receptacles 8, 9. In the arrangement described, the jet 1 is disposed in a box 2, Fig. 2, parallel with the upper edges of two inclined plates 5. The particles from the jet collect in troughs 3 and are controlled in their passage to the plates 5 by baffles 4 so as to have very small initial velocity. Side bins 8 collect the particles that leave the plates with high velocity and the others fall vertically into the bins 9. The entrance to the side receptacles may be guarded by screens 20 so as to sift the materials. The plates 5 may be curved throughout or at their lower ends, and may be adjustable about hinged supports 14 or vibrated by cams 13.
