Abstract
345,915. Armouring cables. KABELFABRIK & DRAHTINDUSTRIE AKT.- GES., 33, Oswaldgasse, Vienna. Aug. 5, 1930, No. 23485. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1929. [Class 36.] A pressure-resisting covering for a submarine cable is formed of hollow metal strands which are preferably trapezoidal in cross-section. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a cable comprises cores k enclosed in a pressureresisting covering of hollow strands d, about which is applied a watertight sheath m of lead, rubber, guttapercha or the like. The hollow strands d may be filled with a light metal such as aluminium. In order to prevent displacement of the strands d, round wires r may be inserted between the strands d as shown in Fig. 2, or the strands may be tongued and grouved or formed with interengaging teeth. In a modified construction, shown in Fig. 4, the strands d are formed with a channelshaped cross section.
