Abstract
In the manufacture of regenerated cellulose filaments or films by precipitating a cellulose solution with a concentrated mineral acid, degradation of the products is avoided by adding to the precipitating bath formaldehyde or a polymer, condensation product, or derivative thereof that yields formaldehyde in the bath. According to the examples, (1) a cellulose xanthate solution is spun into sulphuric acid of 50 DEG B<\>ae. to which aqueous formaldehyde solution has been added; (2) an ammoniacal-copper solution of cellulose is spun into nitric acid of 24 DEG B<\>ae. to which aqueous formaldehyde solution has been added; (3) a cellulose xanthate solution is spun into hydrochloric acid of 21 DEG B<\>ae. to which paraformaldehyde has been added.
